J.J. Spaun says his wife’s upset. 

He’s been home just one week this year, at the end of last month. Before that, he played the Sony Open, then the American Express event, then the Farmers Insurance Open, then the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, then the WM Phoenix Open, then the Genesis Invitational. The week off followed. Then he was back on the road. Starting early this month, he played the Cognizant Classic, followed by the Arnold Palmer Invitational, followed by this week’s Players Championship. 

“My wife is upset that I’ve only been home for one week this year,” Spaun said. “I’m itching to get back, and she wants me to get back to help her out a little bit.”

It’s understandable; Spaun’s wife, Melody, is parenting Emerson and Violent alone. That said, would a Players’ trophy, along with its $4.5 million winner’s check, help smooth things over?

“Yeah, she would not mind at all,” Spaun said. “The sacrifice would pay off at that point, for sure.”
