Although the Mar. 14 episode of SmackDown will air in its usual time at 8 p.m. ET on USA in the United States, it won’t be live. That’s because the show kicks off WWE’s three-week pre-WrestleMania 41 tour of Europe and the United Kingdom, and comes our way from Olimpic Arena in Barcelona, Spain — and airing live there (and, as far as we know, everywhere SmackDown calls Netflix home) at 3 p.m. ET. That means spoilers will be available for those who wish to partake.
Advertised for the show: Undisputed WWE champ Cody Rhodes will talk about his ‘Mania program with The Rock and John Cena, and #DIY defend the WWE Tag titles against Street Profits. Two big stars will be in singles action when Randy Orton faces Carmelo Hayes, and Charlotte Flair takes on B-Fab. Plus, the latest developments in the Naomi/Jade Cargill/Bianca Belair drama, new United States champion LA Knight, and more!
We’ll update this post as results come in from Barcelona.
- It’s the usual hot international crowd as you can hear “Ole!” chants as we’re welcomed to the show. Among the arriving wrestlers is World champ Gunther, making a visit to the Friday show.
- New U.S. champ LA Knight opens the show with a promo (YEAH). He’s cut off by Big Jim Uso, who gives the Megastar his props but isn’t out to congratulate him, he needs a spot on the WrestleMania card and wants to challenge Knight in Vegas.
- Solo Sikoa is out next, flanked by Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu. Solo argues that Fatu should be next in line for the red, white, and blue belt. He wants Jim to step aside as he’s a failure to the family. Uso says his failure was trusting Solo, and Solo’s failure was losing the Ula Fala. Things break down, and Sikoa, Tonga & Fatu stand tall over Knight & Uso.
- Braun Strowman appears and clears Solo & Tama out of the ring, and after a bit more work, Fatu too. Here comes General Manager Nick Aldis and we’ve got a match (playa)!
- Big Jim Uso, Braun Strowman & LA Knight def. Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga & Jacob Fatu by pinfall (Strowman on Fatu). The finish came when Strowman bulldozed everyone with a lap around the ring, followed by dropkicking Sikoa, Uso diving to send Fatu over the announce desk, and Braun planting Tama with powerslam.
- Things break down afterward when the losers attack. Knight and Sikoa brawl off into the crowd. Fatu superkicks Big Jim, then levels Braun with an elbow and a series of headbutts. His finishes with not one, not two, but THREE moonsaults to Strowman that leave him laying.
- After a break, we get a video package on the Naomi/Jade/Bianca situation.
- Cathy Kelley interviews Cargill in an empty arena. Jade says she’s physically ready to go, and runs down Naomi for playing the victim. Kelley asks why Jade didn’t tell anyone who her attacker was, and Cargill remembers being hit from behind, being thrown onto a car, and seeing Naomi run off. Naomi didn’t just attack her physically, she made it so Jade can’t trust anyone. She’s talking about how hard it was to see Bianca team with Naomi when Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez just happen to stroll by.
- They banter, with Liv complaining about being blamed for the attack and Cargill firing back that they never would have been champions if she was around. A match gets made for next week, and Morgan jokes that Jade should make sure she doesn’t fall on any cars between now and then.
- B-Fab gets a few words to say she hopes Charlotte Flair isn’t sleeping on her.
- Charlotte Flair def. B-Fab by submission with a Figure Four. This got some time, and Fab had her moments, but the outcome was never in doubt.
- Flair won’t release the hold after the bell… until Tiffany Stratton’s music hits. The Queen takes down the champ when she enters the ring and the brawl is on! Security can’t hold Charlotte back, and she splashes Tiff before things head to the floor. Stratton gets the last big spot when she dives on Flair and the security team.
- Pre-recorded Drew McIntyre promo. An intense McIntyre says he was so focused on all the obstacles in front of him he failed to notice who benefited each time he got screwed over… Damian Priest. He recounts how that’s been the case, and then talks about Priest eliminating him from the Royal Rumble and their issues at Elimination Chamber. He says their feud isn’t about “taking the title from me”, it’s “about putting you down so you can’t take anything from me ever again.”
- Miz is out for his TV, but the start is delayed as Flair and Stratton are STILL brawling after a break. After a kick sends Tiffy into an LED board, she climbs on top of one for another big swanton to wipe everyone out. The champ gets in one last kick on Flair for good measure before being taken to the back.
- Loving the way the ladies kicked off Miz TV, Miz starts talking about his guest. He says he would have taken The Rock’s offer, and that Cody Rhodes’ rejection of it got him beaten down “by two of the best rappers on the planet”. He reminds us that, unlike his guest, he’s beaten Cena at WrestleMania…
- “Wrestling has more than one royal family” hits, and the champ makes his entrance. Miz says he doesn’t have time for sing-a-longs and need to ask tough questions. Rhodes punches him in the face, hits CrossRhodes, and grabs the mic. He only wants to talk to John Cena, and if he can find the time to join them Monday on Raw, Cody will be there to have that talk.
- We get a scene of Aldis yelling at Shinsuke Nakamura for misting a referee last week. He considered a suspension, but books a rematch instead. Priest is looking for McIntyre, which draws a sharp response in Japanese from Nakamura. Priest issues a threat, and the GM books him a match against Shinsuke.
- A video package airs for a soon-to-be-debuting wrestler. No names or faces shown, but I’ll eat my hat if that’s not for Rey Fenix.
- Damian Priest def. Shinsuke Nakamura via disqualification. Priest seemed to have this back-and-forth match won, but before he could hit South of Heaven, Drew McIntyre showed up. Distracted by McIntyre standing on the announce desk, Priest almost gets rolled up. Nakamura sets up for Kinshasa, but Priest counters. Before he can capitalize, Drew attacked.
- The post-match brawl between Priest & McIntyre leads to Drew gouging his eyes, then Nak hits Kinshasa on Priest. Shinsuke leaves, but McIntyre stays to beat his nemesis to the floor and repeatedly slam him into the barricade. He slams his head with the ring steps. Refs back him off, but he returns to Claymore Damian and stomp on his head, declaring that his only goal is to make Priest’s life a living hell.
- An interview with tag champs #DIY is interrupted by the Motor City Machine Guns. Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin remind Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano they have unfinished business.
- We see Randy Orton walking, get a commercial, and then Cathy Kelley tries to interview Chelsea Green. That goes about as well as it always does, then Zelina Vega walks up to say she’ll be taking Green’s U.S. title. Piper Niven says Vega has to go through her first, and Vega says she will, and the title will be hers.
- Randy Orton def. Carmelo Hayes by pinfall after an RKO. Long match, and Melo was rolling toward the end. But Orton cut off a Nothin’ But Net attempt with a forearm and blocked on try at First 48 before countering another with an OUT OF NOWHERE RKO.
- The Viper offers his hand afterwards, but Hayes piefaces him. That gets him another RKO. Randy pulls down his knee pad to inflict more punishment, but Kevin Owens arrives to pull Melo to safety. The former tag partners exchange punches, but KO escapes after sending Orton into the ring post.
- Solo Sikoa orders Jacob Fatu to take out Braun Strowman. Fatu confronts Braun, and they’ll run that match back next Friday.
- Gunther heads to the ring. After a break, we see a smoky room with the number four displayed.
- In the ring, Gunther says the Road to WrestleMania starts in Europe, so the greatest European wrestler of all-time had to be here… although he wishes it would have started in Madrid. He shifts his focus to Jey Uso. The people love him, but in the ring, that doesn’t mean a thing. It’s like Spain’s best wrestler, A-Kid (aka Axiom)… who Gunther signals for. They’ll have a non-title match next.
- Gunther def. Axiom via pinfall after a powerbomb. Another good, long match that saw a frustrated World champ try to unmask his opponent about halfway through. Axiom fought back and got a great nearfall after hitting Golden Ratio, and seemed to have Der Ring General fading when he trapped him in Ring of Saturn. But Gunther powered out, hitting a powerbomb and a clothesline before the final powerbomb put the Spanish wrestler away.
- Gunther puts Axiom in a sleeper, and refuses to release it as refs plead with him.
- After a break and a recap of Raw’s steel cage main event, Paul Heyman is out. He plans to keep it short and sweet, reminding us that today is Roman Reigns Day (aka, the official release of WWE 2K25). He’s got a few words from Reigns’ rumored ‘Mania opponents, Seth Rollins and his friend CM Punk. He closes by saying that anyone who has a problem with any of this or his Tribal Chief can come to Bologna, Italy next Friday and say it to Roman’s face.
- A rundown of next Friday’s card, including Reigns’ appearance, Cargill vs. Morgan, Vega vs. Niven, and Fatu vs. Strowman.
- Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins head to the ring for the main when LDF happen to walk by. Santos Escobar says he has no problem with them, and hopes they win — because they’ll enjoy taking the titles off them. Street Profits each get a few words to say they’re winning the belts tonight.
- Pretty Deadly (winners of last week’s #1 contenders match) watch the main on a monitor backstage.
- Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) def. #DIY (Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano) to become the NEW WWE Tag Team champions. Another long, good match that ended when Dawkins ducked to avoid Meeting in the Middle, causing Gargano to superkick Ciampa. He then hit Sky High on a stunned Johnny. Ford tags in, climbs to the top, hits the Seven Star Splash and pins Ciampa!
- The Profits celebrating being back up as we go to credits.
