CREW TEN, TAKING THEIR FIRST STEPS OUTSIDE ABOUT THREE HOURS BEFORE THEY GAVE THEIR FINAL GOODBYES FOR A SECOND TIME TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY HEALTH SCREENINGS, COMMUNICATION CHECKS AND FUELING ALL WENT AS PLANNED. CREW TEN LIFTED OFF AT 7:03 P.M. FRIDAY. ALL SYSTEMS A GO GO CREW TEN WITH A SUCCESSFUL SEPARATION. THE DRAGON ENDURANCE CAPSULE WAS FLYING FREE IN ORBIT JUST TEN MINUTES AFTER LIFTOFF. SPACEFLIGHT IS TOUGH, BUT HUMANS ARE TOUGHER. DAYS LIKE TODAY ARE MADE POSSIBLE ONLY WHEN PEOPLE CHOOSE TO DO THE HARDER RIGHT OVER THE EASIER RUNS. COMMANDER ANNE MCCLAIN SPOKE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ORBIT, ALLUDING TO THE PREVIOUSLY SCRUBBED LAUNCH ON WEDNESDAY, THANKING THE TEAM FOR ENSURING THE SAFETY OF THE CREW AND MAKING SURE EVERYTHING WENT RIGHT. PILOT NICOLE AYERS ALSO THANKED THE ENGINEERS BEHIND THE MISSION. WE’RE NOT THE FIRST HUMANS TO GET TO ORBIT, AND WE WOULDN’T BE HERE WITHOUT THE BRAVERY AND HARD WORK OF THOSE WHO HAVE PAVED THE WAY FOR HUMAN SPACE FLIGHT. ONCE THERE IS A SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION FROM CREW NINE TO CREW TEN, THE TEAM PLANS TO TACKLE MORE THAN 200 EXPERIMENTS. THEY WILL DIVE INTO HEALTH RESEARCH, HOW SPACEFLIGHT AFFECTS THE BODY. THIS SPECIFICALLY WILL HELP IN KEEPING HEALTHY ASTRONAUTS ON FUTURE DEEP SPACE TRIPS TO THE MOON AND LATER TO MARS. THEY’LL ALSO RUN FLAMMABILITY TESTS TO UNDERSTAND HOW FIRE REACTS IN MICROGRAVITY. MOST OF THEIR WORK WILL BE DEDICATED TO WORKING TO LEARN HOW ASTRONAUTS CAN SURVIVE IN SPACE LONG TERM, PAVING THE WAY FOR THE ARTEMIS TWO MISSION EXPECTED NEXT YEAR. Four astronauts launched from Florida to embark on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-10 mission to the International Space Station. The launch was expected to liftoff from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Wednesday. However, it was postponed to Friday at 7:03 p.m. due to a hydraulic ground issue.
