Carlos Santana was rushed to the hospital after suffering a medical emergency while preparing for a concert in San Antonio.

The 77-year-old San Francisco musician was at the Majestic Theatre for a sound check on Tuesday, April 22, when he reportedly fainted. Emergency crews arrived around 5 p.m., and Santana was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

His condition was described as non-life-threatening, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

Santana’s manager, Michael Vrionis, confirmed the incident in a statement, explaining that the cause was dehydration.

“Mr. Santana was at the venue preparing for tonight’s show when he experienced an event that was determined to be dehydration,” Vrionis said. “Out of an abundance of caution and the health of Mr. Santana, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action.”

The concert will be rescheduled, Vrionis added. Fans are advised to hold onto their tickets.

Santana, renowned for classics such as “Black Magic Woman” and the chart-topping hit “Smooth,” kicked off his Oneness Tour 2025 less than a week ago at Yaamava’ Theater in Highland (San Bernardino County) on April 16. He is still expected to perform at upcoming shows later this week in Sugar Land, Texas, and Thackerville, Oklahoma.

This isn’t the first time health concerns have affected the the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist’s schedule. Earlier this year, Santana postponed a Las Vegas residency after breaking a finger in a fall at his Hawaii vacation home. He also collapsed onstage during a Michigan concert in 2022 due to heat exhaustion and dehydration, and in 2021, he underwent an unscheduled heart procedure that led to canceled shows.

Last August, he scrapped several tour dates to undergo a procedure for his back, after criticizing his hometown audience for behaving like an “old people’s house” at his concert at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View.

Despite these challenges, Vrionis assures fans Santana is recovering and will be returning to the stage.

“He is doing well and is looking forward to coming back to San Antonio soon,” he said.
