- The National Weather Service warns of potential severe weather, including damaging winds and possible tornadoes, Saturday afternoon and evening.
After rain, wind and hail rolled through the Louisville area overnight Friday and into Saturday morning, the National Weather Service is warning of another round of potentially severe weather Saturday afternoon and evening.
Louisville is under a wind advisory until 8 p.m. Saturday, with gusts up to 50 mph possible. Louisville could also get anywhere from 1 to more than 2 inches of rain throughout the day, according to the latest NWS forecast.
Ron Steve, assistant warning coordination meteorologist at NWS Louisville, said the rain could create risks for localized flooding, though Louisville isn’t under a flood watch or advisory as of mid-Saturday morning.
Steve also noted that severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and brief spin-up tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
“We’ve got a break for the rest of the morning, but later this afternoon, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on things and be ready to take action if it’s needed,” he said.
The NWS observed gusts as fast as 69 mph at the Louisville International Airport early Saturday morning, Steve said. Louisville received about a quarter inch of rain
The NWS is still working to gather damage reports, but Steve said damage to trees and roofs from wind has been reported in Louisville, Paducah and Union.
Hail also fell overnight, with Oldham and Jefferson counties seeing hailstones ranging from 1-2 inches, Steve said.
There have been “no indications of tornado damage in Kentucky” as of Saturday morning, he added.
