Kentucky made the wrong kind of history vs. Alabama

Kentucky basketball hit a new low Friday night, suffering the worst SEC Tournament loss in program history with a 99-70 blowout defeat to Alabama.

The 29-point margin shattered the previous record of a 17-point loss. It also marked the first time Alabama has beaten Kentucky three straight times in series history, as well as the biggest margin of defeat to the Tide ever, according to UK statistician Corey Price.

The Wildcats kept it close for most of the first half, trailing by just seven points at the break. However, Alabama took over in the second half, outscoring Kentucky 54-32 to secure the dominant win. The Crimson Tide shot an impressive 50.7% from the field and 37.9% from 3-point range, with five players scoring in double figures, led by Labaron Philon with 21 points.

Kentucky struggled offensively without starting point guard Lamont Butler, who missed the game with a shoulder injury. Otega Oweh, who had been the hero against Oklahoma, managed just eight points on 1/6 shooting and committed five turnovers.

Adding to the challenges, Andrew Carr dealt with foul trouble and a nagging back injury but still contributed 18 points.

With the loss, Kentucky will look to regroup as they await their NCAA Tournament seeding and hopefully will have Butler back along with Carr and Oweh being able to play to their full potential come time.
