In a move several NFL insiders had expected, the San Francisco 49ers agreed to trade running back Jordan Mason to the Minnesota Vikings for a draft pick and a pick swap, according to ESPN.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday evening that the Niners will send Mason to the Vikings for a 2026 sixth-round pick. SF will also swap picks in this year’s draft, with the Niners receiving pick No. 160 and Minnesota getting pick No. 187.

Schefter added that Mason also agreed to terms with the Vikings for a two-year deal with $7 million fully guaranteed and a maximum value of $12 million.

Mason was thrust into the starters’ role after star running back Christian McCaffrey began the 2024 season on injured reserve with various leg injuries. In six starts, Mason ran for a career-high 789 yards on 153 attempts, scoring three touchdowns. He ended the year on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain, missing the last five games of the season.

The trade may be just one of many moves the 49ers could make during free agency, with some speculating that the team could deal McCaffrey. San Francisco has already dealt wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders in an effort to dump salary.
