Richmond and VCU send teams to the NCAA tournament

Three teams from Virginia are going dancing.

Driving the news: VCU held off George Mason in the A10 tournament championship on Sunday, 68-63, to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

  • The Rams are a No. 11 seed, playing No. 6 seed BYU in Denver on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Richmond fell in the semifinals of the A10 tournament, but still made the NCAA tournament as a No. 8 seed.

  • The Spiders play No. 9 Georgia Tech in Los Angeles on Friday.

Plus, the William & Mary women’s team is making its first-ever NCAA tournament in program history.

  • It’s seeded in one of the First Four play-in games against High Point University on Thursday at 9pm in Austin. The winner would then play No. 1 seed Texas on Saturday.
