Popular ‘American Idol’ contestant dead at 32

Former “American Idol” contestant Doug Kiker has died.

He was 32.

Billboard.com reported that Kiker’s sister, Angela Evans, firs shared the news of his death on Facebook.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the passing of my brother Douglas Kiker,” she wrote. “He was sooo loved and will be missed by so many! (You’re) singing with the Angels now Bubba please pray for our family as we go (through) this very difficult time.”

No cause of death has been reported for Kiker’s death.

A native of Mobile, Alabama, Kiker competed on season 18 of “American Idol” back in 2020. Because he worked as a sanitation worker, he was nicknamed “The Singing Garbage Man.”

Billboard.com reported that Kiker’s audition performance of Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road,” brought judge Katy Perry to tears.

The site also noted that Kiker was arrested and charged with third-degree domestic violence in 2021.

He was reportedly survived by two daughters.
