Bachelor’s Sean Lowe ‘heartbroken’ after his dog attacked him

DALLAS — Sean Lowe, the former “Bachelor” star who resides in Dallas, was viciously attacked by his own dog twice in 12 hours this weekend, he revealed on social media.

Lowe married his “Bachelor” co-star Catherine Lowe and the couple are raising their three children in Dallas. The family recently adopted a seven-year-old boxer named Moose and posted pictures and videos of the dog frequently. Lowe said he was “heartbroken” by the attack and the dog was previously friendly with Lowe and his kids.

The attack occurred over the weekend when the family hosted a barbecue in their home and Catherine Lowe took their children to the mall. Smoke from the barbecue wafted inside the home and set off the smoke alarms inside, apparently activating the family’s dog, Sean Lowe said.

The dog began attacking him by biting his feet and showing his teeth before grabbing Lowe’s arm, he said in an Instagram video.

“At this point, I am doing everything I possibly can to fend this dog off,” Lowe said.

Lowe said he was able to briefly get the dog outside before it came back and started attacking him again.

“I’m not trying to be dramatic but I honestly just felt like I was fighting for my life here against not just a dog, but my dog,” Lowe said. “All he has ever wanted was affection… It was so bizarre, why was my dog who I know loved me attacking me so aggressively?”

When he was able to get away from the dog, Lowe said he was badly injured and described blood squirting out of his arm and seeing a “pool of blood” coming from his injured wounds.

“I thank God that my friends were there because they were able to rush me to the ER,” Lowe said.

After getting stitched up, Lowe returned home where Moose was corralled in the backyard. The next morning, Lowe contacted Animal Control and was connected with a police officer who said he would help Lowe find the best place for the dog.

“I’m confused, I’m heartbroken but I know with what transpired I can’t keep Moose in this house,” Lowe said.

As the family was working to find a solution, the dog broke through a door that was not secure and attacked Lowe again in the front yard of his home, according to the video.

“Going through a dog attack is pretty darn traumatic, having to relive it less than 12 hours later and seeing that dog running straight at you is something that I don’t think I ever want to experience again.”

Lowe wrestled the dog to the ground and held him there for ten minutes before police arrived, he said.

“I knew I am fighting for my life here,” Lowe said. “It took everything I had to control this dog… If it were anyone else, he would have killed my children or my wife.”

He added that he does not blame Moose and he will continue to advocate for pet adoption.

“I think it’s clear he experienced a lot of trauma before we got him and had something neurologically wrong where just a switch flipped and he turned into an absolute killer, which was so weird,” Lowe said. “He really didn’t show any signs and he was great around my kids, he was great in the house. He was just an affectionate, lovable boxer.”

Lowe ended the video by thanking his wife Catherine and asking for prayers from his followers.

“We miss our dog as weird as that sounds,” Lowe said.
