The new film includes never before seen footage and fans can’t stop talking about it
The Twister: Caught in the Storm – Netflix documentary trailer
Netflix fans say they are ‘shivering’ after watching new film that includes footage that ‘make it difficult to turn away’.
The Twister: Caught in the Storm, which was released on the streaming platform today (March 19), narrates the true story of the havoc wreaked on the town of Joplin in Missouri on May 22, 2011, coincidentally the same day as High School graduation.
Shortly after the students receive their diplomas, their town is struck by a rare EF-5 monster tornado. The film features interviews with several residents who found themselves in the midst of this apocalyptic event, their lives forever changed by the twister’s fierce 200 mph winds.

This feature-length documentary even includes some never-before-seen footage filmed by the people of Joplin as the storm hit, immersing viewers into the heart of the event alongside amateur storm chasers.
Other characters we hear from are a young teenager who interprets the event as the rapture and fears he could be punished for his identity, a 13-year-old Chad Crilley who dreams of becoming a weather reporter, and the captain of the high school football team who, despite being taught by his father to be ready for anything, fears for his missing friend, reports Surrey Live.
Netflix’s latest addition to its library, a gripping film that has yet to earn a Rotten Tomatoes score due to a lack of reviews, but is already causing a stir among viewers with its harrowing true story.
One viewer was deeply moved, stating: “At its most powerful, The Twister is remarkable for the brief moments it captures that are so rarely reflected in an accurate way. The audio from the convenience store comes to mind again.”
They added: “The Twister leaves you shivering at man’s insignificance against the sheer power of the natural world, with a brief denouement for reflection and healing in the wake of catastrophe. We could perhaps go even deeper into how the documentary’s subjects have truly been altered forever by what happened to them–no one mentions nightmares as far as I can recall, and surely they must be having them–but its access to first-hand accounts (and some footage) of an extraordinary event make it difficult to turn away.”

Reactions to the film on Netflix are pouring in, with one fan praising the streaming service on YouTube: “Netflix is doing a great job with these real-life documentaries. Keep them coming.”
Another comment, from someone claiming to have lived through the events depicted, reads: “It started as such a special Graduation Sunday morning… then everything went really wrong. My family and I survived and I grew up in those days after. I saw things a 17 year old should never have to see. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to watch this… experiencing it in life was enough.”
