‘Can’t get stops’ — Warriors fans react to Saturday’s loss to Hawks in Steph Curry’s absence

The Golden State Warriors started their road trip on the wrong foot on Saturday, losing to the Atlanta Hawks 124-115. With Steph Curry sidelined with a pelvic contusion, expectations were fairly low, but it was still a disappointing performance.

Here’s how the Golden State of Mind community reacted to the game in live time, as seen through the comments in our game thread.

First quarter: “Crazy lack of effort”

The Warriors defense was nowhere to be found in the first quarter, as Atlanta got good shot after good shot. The Hawks built up a 20-point lead, and settled into a 40-23 advantage at the end of the frame.

Second quarter: “Hawks can hit everything they want”

Atlanta’s offensive explosion continued for a while in the second quarter, before the Warriors started to play some decent defense. Golden State started scoring, too, but the Hawks made a late push, and led 69-57 at the break.

Third quarter: “Can’t get stops”

The Warriors started the third quarter strong, and quickly pulled to within six points. But the Hawks responded by once again turning the score into a quasi-blowout. Despite some good moments, the Warriors trailed 98-81 going into the final frame.

Fourth quarter: “Offense sputtered and the defense was nonexistent”

The Warriors did have a run in the fourth quarter. After falling down by 22, they came roaring back to make it a single-digit game late. But they couldn’t get quite close enough to really make a game out of it, and started the six-game road trip with a loss.
