Seattle Sounders are on the brink of elimination at the 2025 Club World Cup after a 3-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid at Lumen Field.
Pablo Barrios got two of the goals for the Spaniards — with two smart finishes — either side of a close-range header from Axel Witsel.
There was hope early in the second half for the Sounders when Albert Rusnak scored, but that hope was soon extinguished by Atletico’s third goal.
Their second defeat of the tournament leaves them almost certain of relegation, as Paris Saint-Germain drawing or winning this evening against Botafogo will confirm their fate.
