MLB TV outage on opening day causes fans to express displeasure on social media

MLB’s opening day is meant to be a time for optimism and excitement, but some fans were already dealing with high levels of frustration Thursday.

Several took to social media to share their displeasure by sharing memes about MLB TV, the subscription-based platform. The platform likely saw an uptick in new users after T-Mobile once again offered a free subscription for the entire season this week as a perk for being a member of the cellular service.

Fans experienced a message on their screen that read, “Network Error – Please check your network connection and try again.” The words sat over a photograph from the 2019 National League Division Series of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw sitting by himself with a disappointed-like posture.

The outage happened around 4 p.m. ET, while many were likely trying to use the platform to take in one of the early games on the schedule.

According to Variety, over 21,000 users complained about the service having issues but that number had dropped within the hour to 2,000 complaints.

MLB and MLB TV have not shared a statement of any kind on social media about the issue as of late Thursday afternoon.

Here’s how some fans reacted to the outage.
