Many baseball fans took to social media Thursday to report issues streaming Opening Day games on MLB.TV. Fans shared various accounts on X of encountering error messages while trying to watch games, with the issue lasting at least an hour during the early slate.
The league said it experienced a technical issue earlier in the day, and as of Thursday afternoon, the service was back up.
Many users trying to stream games were met with a screen that read, “Network Error: Please check your network connection and try again.”
Around 4 p.m. ET, MLB Fan Support responded to various users on X, apologizing for the delay caused by the issue.
“Hi there, we are aware of this issue and expect a resolution shortly. Sorry for the delay,” the account wrote in response to multiple posts.
The league offers the MLB.TV package as an add-on to stream “every out-of-market game” for $29.99 monthly. Most of Thursday’s Opening Day games are available to watch locally and two matchups (Milwaukee Brewers-New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers-Los Angeles Dodgers) will be nationally broadcast on ESPN.
Thursday’s streaming issues also came on the same day the league announced its plans to produce and distribute local games during the 2025 season for five teams — the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Guardians, Colorado Rockies, Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres. The league said the move would allow it to “make a direct-to-consumer streaming option available for those five Clubs which eliminates blackouts of local games.”
