Play Ball! Cardinals take field after rain delay

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest/AP) – The Opening Day game for the St. Louis Cardinals was delayed due to rain.

The team’s 134th season in the National League was supposed to kickoff on Thursday at Busch Stadium against the Minnesota Twins at 3:15 p.m.

Due to rain, the Opening Day ceremonies were moved to 4:00 p.m. First pitch was at 4:45 p.m.

The 26-player active roster includes first-time Cardinal Phil Maton.

Last season, the Cardinals went 83-79 overall and 44-37 in home games. The team averaged 8.4 hits per game and totaled 165 home runs.
