This is the UFC 318 live blog for Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier, the main event “BMF” championship bout Saturday at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
The bout is expected to serve as the final fight of Poirier’s storied career.
Holloway (26-8) is currently the No. 12-ranked fighter in the MMA Fighting Pound-for-Pound Rankings. This is the third time he crosses paths with Poirier in the cage, with Poirier having won both their previous encounters in 2012 and 2019. This time, Holloway puts his BMF belt on the line as he looks to finally get one over on his longtime rival. Holloway is a former featherweight champion that rocketed himself into the lightweight title picture with a an all-time great knockout of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. Following a loss to featherweight champion Ilia Topuria at UFC 308, Holloway is making a permanent move up to 155 pounds.
As he prepares for his 32nd and last UFC appearance, Poirier holds a number of career accolades: An interim title win over Holloway in their rematch, 10 Fight of the Night bonuses, and three shots at the undisputed lightweight title. Though Poirier never managed to reach the very top of the mountain, he remains one of MMA’s most beloved fighters, and his list of victories includes a laundry list of legends including Holloway (twice), Conor McGregor (twice), Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis, and Jim Miller.
Poirier now prepares to say farewell in his home state of Louisiana.
