HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – With Hawaii under a tsunami warning and evacuations underway, traffic is heavy across the islands.
Freeways, major highways and roads all saw congestion as people moved to higher ground.
Tsunami warning issued for Hawaii after M8.8 earthquake off Russia
On Oahu, traffic was slow-going all around the island.
Video taken by Christopher Korsak showed traffic backup in both directions of the H-1 Freeway through the Punchbowl, Nuuanu area as warning sirens sounded.
There was also gridlock on Kamehameha Highway through Haleiwa.

The U.S. Army and Navy opened Kolekole Pass from Lualualei Naval Road to Lyman Road for residents as an alternate evacuation path.
On Kauai, roads in Kekaha experienced backups.
On Hawaii Island, areas experiencing traffic included Queen Kaahumanu Highway heading into Kona and parts of Hilo.
