Possible earthquake being investigated in New Jersey, NYC officials say

Officials are investigating reports of a possible earthquake in New Jersey, the New York City Office of Emergency Management said Saturday night.

“A magnitude 3.0 earthquake is reported to have occurred in or near New Jersey. Tremors may have been felt in parts of New York City,” OEM officials said in a post on X.

These reports have not yet been confirmed.

There were reports of tremors being felt in Bergen County, Westchester County and New York City around 10:18 p.m.

Back in July, a small 1.6 magnitude earthquake happened near Morris Plains in Morris County, the U.S. Geological Survey reported, and in January, a 2.4 magnitude earthquake shook Bergen County.

Last year, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit Readington Township. It was one of the largest earthquakes to hit the East Coast in a century and was felt across the Tri-State area.
