Zoom, the video calling app, was down for thousands of users in the United States on Wednesday afternoon. Users received an ‘Error 50003′ message while trying to open the website and mobile application of Zoom. Down Detector, a platform that tracks such outages based on users’ report, showed that more than 67,000 people reported problems with Zoom, as of this writing.
The outage started around an hour ago, rising to as much as 11,735 in about 15 minutes. As of this writing, the outage shot up to more than 67,000 users, with a rising curve of reports. The classification of reports on Down Detector showed 46% of the users reported problems with the website, while 39% said that the app was not working. 15% faced issues while trying to log in.
Several users on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, reported the outage.
“woooooof, probably not a good sign that even zoom’s status page is down,” one user wrote.
“Seems bad that the Zoom uptime tracker is down lol,” added another.
“Trying to join a job interview and fucking Zoom went down globally 🤣😂” said one.
“Finally has a need to schedule a Zoom, and zoom is down,” wrote one.
Zoom Communications Inc. is a publicly traded company founded by Eric Yuan in 2011. Yuan serves as the chairman and CEO and remains the largest individual shareholder, owning approximately 22% of the company. The majority of Zoom’s shares are held by institutional investors, with Vanguard Group, BlackRock and Fidelity Management & Research Co. LLC among the top stakeholders.
