INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Footage Wednesday night from a WISH-TV viewer shows a funnel ripping through north of downtown Indianapolis in Carmel.

A tornado touched down in Carmel Wednesday night around 9 p.m. Footage from the scene shows the funnel cloud ripping through parts of the city, leaving behind a trail of destruction.

The storm struck with little warning, and residents were caught off guard as strong winds and heavy rain preceded the tornado’s arrival. Reports indicate that debris scattered across streets, with fallen trees and power lines blocking roads in some areas.

The storm is part of a larger weather system that has impacted much of the Midwest, with additional tornado warnings in surrounding areas.

Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage. The National Weather Service has yet to issue an official report on the tornado’s strength.
