Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect for Eastern Ohio, Mercer County, PA

(WJET/WFX) — The National Weather Service has issued Severe Thunderstorm Watches for all of Eastern Ohio as well as Mercer County, PA, until 7 am this morning.

This watch comes ahead of possible severe storms which are expected to move into the area this morning, which could bring locally damaging wind gusts and “perhaps a tornado.”

At this time, Erie and Crawford Counties are not included in the watch.

A wind advisory remains in effect for Erie, PA county and Chautauqua, NY county until 6 am this morning, with winds around 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
