Four observations from Bayern Munich’s 2-2 (4-3) aggregate loss to Inter Milan

Bayern Munich’s dream of a Champions League trophy being lifted in Munich is once again cut short. A disorganized performance saw Bayern bow out of the Champions League again.

Attack disappoints

Although there were flashes of play such as Harry Kane’s goal, the attack simply didn’t do enough. For the majority of the match, Leroy Sané and Kane struggled significantly. Kane has not delivered what he was brought to Munich to accomplish.

Yellow cards

Two first half yellow cards for the center pairing in defense, really prevented Eric Dier and Kim Min-jae from more aggressive tackles in the second half. With Dayot Upamecano sidelined, there were no reinforcements to replace the cautioned players. Not a good recipe for success.

Farewell for Müller

Thomas Müller can hold up his chin with an energetic and passionate performance in the match. Unfortunately, there will be no fairy tale ending for one of the all-time Champions League greats.

Squad depth cost Bayern

Lack of investing in bench options put Bayern Munich in a situation that restricted tactical substitutions and a much weaker lineup than the best XI. Year after year, when will Bayern learn? Konrad Laimer is a perfect example of the kind of player Bayern needs and should keep.
