Officials announced a cause of death for actress Michelle Trachtenberg, who passed away earlier this year, on Wednesday.
The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner told People that the “Gossip Girl” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star died due to complications from diabetes mellitus. Her manner of death was ruled as natural.
Authorities found Trachtenberg dead in her New York City apartment on Feb. 26 after they responded to a 911 call.
Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant and could have been experiencing complications, officials said at the time.
“She was really, really sick and open with those in her circle about how much she was struggling,” an anonymous source said to People. “She was “pale, gaunt, very thin, and dealing with health issues.”
Trachtenberg began her acting career as a child star in such Nickelodeon projects as “The Adventure of Pete & Pete” and the film “Harriet the Spy.”
She is best known as playing Georgina Sparks on “Gossip Girl” and Dawn Summers on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
Her other acting credits include “EuroTrip,” “17 Again” and “Ice Princess.”
