Chennai Super Kings seemed to be headed towards an unprecedented sixth consecutive defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday but captain MS Dhoni stepped in and did what most had assumed he had lost the ability to do. He smashed an unbeaten 26 in 11 balls to almost single-handedly turn it around for CSK and ended up winnng player of the match for the first time since IPL 2019. (Hindustan Times)

CSK got a couple of big strikes in the powerplay itself. Aiden Markram fell to Khaleel Ahmed in the first over and the red-hot Nicholas POoran fell to Anshul Kamboj in the fourth, with MS Dhoni succesfully overturning the umpire’s decision. (ANI)

Rishabh Pant hit some form at long last after a dismal start with the bat as an LSG player. However, while he started off briskly, Pant was slowed down by the CSK spinners, as was the case for all LSG batters. He ended up being dimissed in the last over for 63 runs in 49 balls. (PTI)

Noor Ahmad may not have taken any wickets but he was easily the standout bowler for CSK. He gave just 13 runs away in the four overs he bowled. His economy of 3.25 was easily the best for CSK, with the next best being Anshul Kamboj’s 6.66 in three overs. CSK were restricted to a score of 166/7. (AP)

Chennai Super Kings’ new opening partnership of debutant Shaik Rasheed and Rachin Ravinda worked for them. The pair blasted 52 runs in 26 balls before Rasheed was dismissed by Avesh Khan for 27 in 19 balls. (ANI)

MS Dhoni made Pant pay for that blunder dearly. He smashed the fast bowlers as much as he could and suddenly brought CSK’s required run rate crashing down from nearly 10 an over when he entered the field in the 15th over.  (PTI)

Pant gave Shardul Thakur the 19th over, once again keeping Ravi Bishnoi out and Shivam Dube hit his first two balls for a four and a six. Thakur even bowled a wide fourth ball and then Dhoni got a four off the last delivery of that over. CSK needed just five to win off the last over and the did it with ease. The partnership between Dhoni and Dube finished unbeaten on 57 off 28 balls. (PTI)

Dhoni stood not out on on 26 off 11 balls while Dube was unbeaten on 43 in 37 balls. CSK thus avoided a sixth consecutive defeat. (AFP)
