Hayden Christensen is happy to be back in the Star Wars universe, as long as he doesn’t have to go back over to the Dark Side.
While confirming his return as Anakin Skywalker for Season 2 of Ahsoka, the actor explained during Star Wars Celebration in Japan why he likes portraying the character before the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005).
“I think my understanding of the character is just continuing to grow,” he told Complex. “We’re getting to explore different sides of Anakin, which I’m really enjoying. I’m just enjoying the journey.”
Christensen continued, “He’s a very complex character, and there’s a lot going on. But I’m really loving getting to sort of play the more heroic side of the character in the Ahsoka show, and I’m very excited for Season 2.”
After first playing the pre-Darth Vader role in 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, Christensen reprised Anakin for the 2022 Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, reuniting with Ewan McGregor.
In 2023, the actor returned to the role again in Ahsoka, which sees Anakin serving as Jedi Master to the titular Padawan, portrayed by Ariana Greenblatt and Rosario Dawson.
The show is set before the events of Revenge of the Sith, which ends with Anakin’s transformation into Darth Vader after being severely injured in a lightsaber duel with Obi-Wan.
