Sundar Pichai lauded 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s record-breaking IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals, becoming the youngest player ever. Suryavanshi impressed with a quickfire 34 off 20 balls, including a six off his first delivery.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai expressed amazement after 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history as the youngest-ever player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history during Saturday’s match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
“Woke up to watch an 8th grader play in the IPL!!!! What a debut!” Pichai posted on social media platform X following the Suryavanshi’s impressive performance.
Suryavanshi, at just 14 years and 23 days old, shattered the previous record for the IPL’s youngest debutant by nearly two years. He entered the match as an impact substitute for the injured Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson.
The young left-handed batter made an immediate impression, smashing his very first ball for a six over extra cover off Shardul Thakur. Dubbed “Boss Baby” by television commentators, Suryavanshi scored 34 runs off just 20 balls, including two fours and three sixes, before being stumped off spinner Aiden Markram.
Suryavanshi formed an 85-run opening partnership with fellow left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal, helping Rajasthan in their chase of 181 runs. Despite his efforts, RR ultimately fell short by two runs in a tense finish, with Avesh Khan defending nine runs in the final over for LSG.
The teenager from Bihar was acquired by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega-auction when he was still only 13 years old. His talent was previously showcased when he scored a century in just 58 balls during an Under-19 Test against Australia.
With this performance, Suryavanshi has also become the youngest player to hit a six and a four in IPL history. Despite RR’s loss, which leaves them at 8th place with just two wins from eight matches, Suryavanshi’s impressive debut suggests he may retain his place in the team even when Samson returns from injury.
