Bills lock down QB Josh Allen with record-breaking $330 million extension

The Buffalo Bills have made a bold statement by securing their quarterback, Josh Allen, with a monumental six-year, $330 million extension, marking one of the most lucrative deals in NFL history.

Announced on Sunday, the deal includes a massive $250 million in guaranteed money-the largest guarantee ever offered to an NFL player, further cementing Allen’s position as one of the league’s most valuable stars.

Allen’s deal sets new benchmark for NFL contracts

With this extension, Allen will remain with the Bills through the 2030 season, extending his current contract by four years. The deal’s average annual value (AAV) of $55 million per season places him among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. Only Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott has a higher AAV at $60 million per season. Despite Allen’s already impressive contract, the new extension speaks to his incredible performance on the field and the Bills‘ commitment to him as their franchise player.

Allen’s previous contract, which had four years remaining, was upgraded to ensure the team locks him down for the long haul. His new contract eclipses Cleveland Browns’ Deshaun Watson’s previous record of $230 million in guaranteed money, though Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes still holds the largest total contract in NFL history at $450 million.

Allen’s historic career performance

The decision to extend Allen’s contract comes on the heels of his extraordinary performance during the 2024 season. Not only did he lead the Bills to their fifth consecutive division title, but he also propelled them back to the AFC Championship Game for the second time in five years. Allen, who won his first career MVP award, threw for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns, and an impressive 12 rushing touchdowns. In an unprecedented feat, he became the first player in NFL history to record at least 25 touchdown passes, 10 rushing touchdowns, and fewer than 10 interceptions in a single season.

As the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Allen has redefined expectations for young quarterbacks. He holds the record for most wins, total touchdowns, and total yards by any QB in their first seven seasons, solidifying his legacy as one of the best to ever play the position.

With this landmark contract, the Bills are signaling their faith in Allen as the key to bringing the team its first Super Bowl title, even as the search for the ultimate championship continues.
