Padres’ Luis Arráez Sends Clear Message After Frightening Injury Sunday

San Diego Padres star Luis Arráez is on the mend following a frightening injury in Sunday’s victory over the Houston Astros.

Arráez shared an Instagram post early Monday, informing fans he avoided significant injury after colliding with Astros second baseman Mauricio Dubón. Replays showed the All-Star designated hitter’s face colliding with Dubón’s arm or elbow in the first inning of the Padres’ 3-2 win.

Both players went to the ground, with Arráez remaining down until a stretcher took him off the field. Play resumed following a 10-minute delay as Arráez immediately went to Houston Methodist Hospital for testing.

“Thankfully, there is nothing to worry about,” Arráez wrote. “I’m currently resting and plan to rejoin the team this Monday.”

It is unclear if Arráez, 28, will play Monday night against the Detroit Tigers. He’s started all 22 games for the Padres.

Arráez remains a steady bat in the Padres’ lineup, even amid a slow start by his standards. The three-time defending batting champion enters play Monday hitting only .287, which would be a career-low and his worst average since a .294 mark in 2021.

However, Arráez has flashed a slight power stroke. He already has three home runs over 96 plate appearances after tallying four in 637 PAs last season.

San Diego is a league-best 16-6 and owns a half-game advantage over Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
