There continues to be a log jam in the National League, with the Padres still holding the best record in MLB at 16-6, even after a break-even week. The Dodgers, who won five of six games against the Rockies and Rangers, are 16-7, only a half-game behind San Diego.
Padres infielder Luis Arraez had to be carted off the field after getting in a collision at first base in Houston on Sunday night. Arraez was hospitalized but per the team was “stable, conscious, responsive, and able to move his extremities.”
The Diamondbacks made a push the last week-plus, winning six of their last eight games. They are within shouting distance in the division at 13-9. Arizona had such an eventful week that even their losses were exciting.
In the 112 seasons at Wrigley Field, there was no inning with more total runs than the 16 runs in the eighth by the D-backs and Cubs on Friday afternoon, per Sarah Langs at MLB.com. Arizona scored 10 runs in the top of the frame to grab an 11-7 lead, only to see the Cubs score six in the bottom of the inning.
Al Yellon at Bleed Cubbie Blue chronicled the craziness, and was also on hand in the stands to capture the carnage on the old-time scoreboard at the friendly confines:
