As the It Ends With Us fallout continues, the next big Colleen Hoover adaptation is chugging along — and by the look of things, it’s already getting messy. Verity, which is based on CoHo’s 2018 psychological thriller, is filming now, and new set photos show Dakota Johnson covered with fake blood. Like, a Texas Chain Saw Massacre amount of blood. Which begs the question: What on earth is going on here?
Actually, if you’re familiar with Hoover’s deranged best seller, all that gore is very much in the spirit of Verity’s plot. In the beginning of the book, Johnson’s character, Lowen Ashleigh, is busy flitting around New York City when she witnesses a cyclist get hit by a car and finds herself an active part of the crime scene. Jeremy Crawford (who’s being played by Josh Hartnett) sees the panicked and blood-covered Lowen, offers to help her, and the rest is … well, I won’t spoil it for you. Just know that it’s far creepier than a little car-accident splatter.
Alongside Johnson and Hartnett, Anne Hathaway is set to play the titular Verity Crawford, Jeremy’s wife. Directed by Michael Showalter, who also directed Hathaway in age-gap romance The Idea of You, the Amazon MGM Studios film hasn’t announced a release date. But by the looks of it, Verity is going to be even more fun than the Madame Web press tour.
