Duke’s star freshman Cooper Flagg will be a “real long shot” to play in an ACC Tournament rematch with archrival UNC after hurting his ankle Thursday in a quarterfinals game.
Why it matters: Flagg, the ACC’s Player of the Year at just 18 years old, rolled his ankle in the first half of Duke’s win against Georgia Tech and left the game in a wheelchair.
- Duke coach Jon Scheyer said he wanted to be cautious with Flagg and make sure he is ready for an NCAA Tournament run where Duke should be one of the favorites to win it all.
What’s next: Duke will play UNC — which won an intense game against Wake Forest 68-59 on Thursday — in the semifinals Friday at 7pm on ESPN.
What we’re watching: UNC is still firmly on the bubble for making the NCAA Tournament, and the team’s game against Wake Forest was widely considered a must-win.
- A win against Duke — who has already beaten the Tar Heels twice this year — would be huge for the team’s case to the selection committee.
