Forecasters are urging Eastern Iowans to remain alert for an enhanced risk of severe weather moving through the area Friday night.
A line of severe storms with winds approaching 70 to 80 miles per hour is expected to move through the area Friday evening, especially during a window of 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Tornadoes are also possible as thunderstorms move through, forecasters warn.
The storms will likely be moving at a high rate of speed, meaning there will be very little time to react to potential warnings that may be issued, forecasters with the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities said in their Thursday forecast.
The strongest portions of the storms will impact any one area for less than 30 minutes, forecasters said.
A wind advisory will be in place from 1 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday, with winds gusting to about 45 mph. The wind will create an elevated fire danger throughout the entire region Friday.
Friday will start sunny and temperatures will reach 78 degrees. The storms will bring in cooler temperatures, with the low temperature Friday night around 46 degrees.
