‘Dancing With the Stars’ announces first season 34 contestant and it’s Steve Irwin’s son, Robert

Crikey, Dancing With the Stars is about to get wild.

The long-running ABC dance competition is officially returning for season 34 this fall, and they’ve already announced their first celebrity contestant. On Tuesday, the network announced that Robert Irwin, the son of beloved Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, will join the hunt for the Mirrorball Trophy.

Robert follows in the fancy footsteps of his sister, Bindi, who was crowned the champion of season 21 alongside professional partner Derek Hough (now a judge on DWTS) in 2015.

Irwin’s professional partner and the additional contestants won’t be announced until closer to the season 34 premiere.

The 21-year-old, much like his father, is a conservationist and TV personality. He currently is the co-host of Australia’s version of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here. From 2018 to 2022, he starred on reality series Crikey! It’s the Irwins alongside sister Bindi and mom Terri.

The younger Irwin works at the Australia Zoo and he previously hosted Robert’s Real Life Adventures, which aired on his family zoo’s internal television network. He also hosted Discovery Kids Channel show, Wild But True. Additionally, Irwin co-created a book series titled Robert Irwin: Dinosaur Hunter.

The premiere date and more information for season 34 of Dancing With the Stars is still to come. The show, as it has since 2023, will air simultaneously on ABC and Disney+.
