Pahalgam terror attack news live: Immediately upon his arrival in Delhi early this morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level security briefing at the airport with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra to assess the situation following the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
The Prime Minister had cut short his official visit to Saudi Arabia in light of the attack, which left at least 26 civilians dead.
During the meeting, PM Modi was briefed on the latest intelligence inputs, ongoing counter-terror operations, and diplomatic responses.
The Prime Minister, who had embarked on a two-day visit to the Kingdom, decided to curtail his trip as news of the attack unfolded on Tuesday afternoon. He also skipped the official dinner hosted in his honour by the Saudi government.
The attack has sent shockwaves across the country, with reports confirming that heavily armed terrorists, disguised in Indian Army fatigues, opened fire on civilians in the Baisaran Valley area near Pahalgam – a popular tourist destination in south Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, currently on a visit to the US, stated today that he had spoken with Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and state Congress chief Tariq Karra to get an update on the situation.
“Spoke with HM Amit Shah, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and J&K PCC President Tariq Karra about the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. Received an update on the situation,” Gandhi posted on X. He also wrote that the families of the victims deserve justice and the nation’s unwavering support.
