Anthony Davis Shares Emotional Message on Luka Doncic Trade After Elimination

Anthony Davis and the Dallas Mavericks saw their season end on Friday, falling to the Memphis Grizzlies 120-106.

It’s been a tough stretch for Davis, who was at the center of the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis strained his left adductor in his Mavericks debut and missed significant time, appearing in just nine regular-season games for Dallas after the deal.

Davis acknowledged the criticism surrounding the trade in Dallas but expressed gratitude following the Mavericks’ elimination from playoff contention.

“I’m just very appreciative that I get to play the game of basketball. Appreciative to Dallas, the fan base and my teammates for accepting me and welcoming me with open arms, given the situation. It’s part of basketball. You can’t control what goes on,” Davis said after the loss. “The injury happened and I tried to do everything I could to get back on the floor to finish the season and try to carry us into the playoffs. I’m just appreciative.”

He continued: “Obviously, it’s a lot of emotion. I know it’s not directed towards me. The city loved the guy. Get rid of a guy. New guy comes in, yet they want to embrace you and they’re thankful for you. It still stings. I’m just thankful and appreciative for the city of Dallas and the fans for welcoming me and Max (Christie) to the new situation.”

Davis was visibly hobbled in the second half against the Grizzlies but tried to gut it out. He finished the play-in loss with 40 points and nine rebounds.
