The Arizona State men’s basketball team gets a shot at redemption, sort of.
The Sun Devils (13-19) are one of 16 teams competing in the inaugural College Basketball Crown, which begins March 31 in Las Vegas. ASU’s first game in the single-elimination tournament will be against Nebraska (17-14). It will start at 5:30 p.m. at MGM Garden Arena and air on FS1.
ASU had a tough regular season, finishing 15th in the Big 12, with the balance of the losses coming because the Sun Devils failed to execute down the stretch.
The Sun Devils lost nine of their last 10 games with a roster stretched thin due to injuries. Freshman forward Jayden Quaintaince has missed eight games, most recently with a knee injury.
The Cornhuskers finished 12th in the 18-team Big Ten but had some impressive wins this season, the most notable ones over Creighton, UCLA, Oregon and Illinois. The team is led by senior guard Brice Williams, who put up a school-record 43 points in a double-overtime loss to Ohio State earlier this month.

The winner of the ASU-Nebraska game advances to face the winner of the contest between Georgetown (17-15) and former Pac-12 foe Washington State (19-14).
The event is new this season and the product of a partnership between Fox Sports and the Anschutz Entertainment Group with an NIL component. One bracket will be played at the MGM, with the other at T-Mobile Arena, the former home of the Pac-12 Tournament.
Other Big 12 teams in the field are Cincinnati, Colorado, Utah and Central Florida.
The field also includes DePaul, Oregon State, Villanova, Tulane, USC Butler, George Washington and Boise State.
