At least four people have been hospitalized after a shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. The suspect is not in custody.
Dallas police responded just after 1 p.m. to a shooting incident reported at Wilmer-Hutchins High School, located at 5500 Langdon Road. One student told CBS News Texas that she heard seven gunshots. Authorities confirmed at around 2:20 p.m. there was no active threat and that the school campus had been secured.
According to the Dallas Fire Department, three of the four victims were shot and their injuries are initially believed to be non-life-threatening. The victims were taken to Baylor Scott & White Health, Parkland and Methodist Hospital Dallas in Oak Cliff. DFR also said three of the victims are between the age of 15 and 18 and one victim’s age is unknown.
According to law enforcement sources who spoke with CBS News Texas, a student is wanted after allegedly firing a gun inside the school campus.
Aerial images showed multiple agencies surrounding the school on Tuesday afternoon, including EMS and Dallas police. ATF agents were also at the scene of the incident. Students could be seen leaving the campus and walking toward the school’s stadium. Roughly 900 students were reported in attendance Tuesday.
Dallas ISD said Tuesday afternoon that all students and staff at Wilmer Hutchins High School were safe and they were being reunited with their families at Eagle Stadium.
District officials said the suspect has been identified and officials are working on locating and arresting that person. They did not share the suspect’s identification.
Dallas ISD Assistant Chief of Police Christina Smith said the gun did not come through “during regular intake time so, it was not a failure of our staff, of our protocols, or of the machinery that we have.”

Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde said classes at Wilmer-Hutchins are canceled for the rest of the week. Elizalde said mental health clinicians will be available.
“Our hearts go out to the victims of this senseless act of violence at Wilmer-Hutchins High School,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement. “I spoke with Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde and Dallas ISD Chief Albert Martinez. I offered to support the school district families, students, and staff and to provide law enforcement with the tools they need to arrest the criminals involved and bring them to justice … Cecilia and I ask our fellow Texans to join us in praying for the victims’ swift recovery and for the entire Wilmer-Hutchins High School community.”

2024 shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School
The high school had a shooting almost a year ago to the day. The April 12, 2024, shooting happened inside a classroom and was targeted, stemming from a dispute, officials said at the time.
A few days after the shooting, students staged a campus walkout.
