Auburn basketball vs. Michigan State: Score prediction for Sunday’s NCAA Tournament game

ATLANTA — Auburn basketball is one game away from San Antonio.

The Tigers staved off 5-seed Michigan late Friday night for a 78-65 Sweet 16 victory. It punched their ticket to the Elite Eight for just the third time in the program’s history. It also gave them a program-record 31 victories this season.

But, as it often is this time of year, the tests will only get tougher for Auburn, who plays 2-seed Michigan State on Sunday (4:05 p.m. CT, CBS) with a trip to the Final Four on the line.

Ahead of the matchup, here’s a look at the Spartans, including a score prediction for Sunday’s Elite Eight showdown.

Score prediction: Auburn basketball vs. Michigan State

1-seed Auburn 68, 2-seed Michigan State 63: Whatever happens, it’s sure to be another scrap.

The Spartans project similarly to Texas A&M, which has been a nightmare matchup for the Tigers in recent seasons. Like the Aggies, Michigan State rebounds and defends at an impressive rate, for whatever size it may be lacking. But just because the Spartans may be gnarly matchup doesn’t mean their path to victory is easy.

This is March. And for all the struggles Auburn faced on the tail end of its regular season, it has performed at a time when the lights are brightest. That was evident against Michigan and Creighton, and even in its matchup with 16-seed Alabama State.

The pieces are there for the Tigers to win. No one, not even them, necessarily knows which ones will fit best on any given night. But they continue to find them regardless.
