When these teams met a week ago, St. Louis put an end to Colorado’s 11-game home winning streak. The Avs have a shot at redemption. Defeating the Blues would end an 11-game winning streak that has catapulted the Avs’ division rival from a middling team to the top spot in the wildcard race.
Colorado is coming off two straight wins, most notably a 7-3 thrashing of the Blue Jackets on Thursday. It was the second leg of a back-to-back, and a dominant performance all around.
Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon, Devon Toews, and Charlie Coyle all had a goal and two assists.
Makar became the first defenseman to 30 goals since Mike Green in 2009. He also became the first blueliner to record 30 goals and 60 assists in the same season since Paul Coffey in 1989.
Coyle’s tally was his first in an Avalanche uniform. He had two points since being acquired before his big night in Columbus. Coyle’s goal was assisted by Miles Wood, and Coyle returned the favor for the Avs’ depth winger, who entered the lineup because of injuries to two others.
Both Jonathan Drouin and Martin Necas suffered injuries in Chicago and did not play. Samuel Girard also missed both games.
Without any traveling media for this trip, it’s unclear if any of them will play tonight. We also won’t know the starter until pre-game warm up given that nobody who was present shared details from morning skate.

The Blues are having a season reminiscent to 2019 when they won the Stanley Cup. That year, they changed coaches midway through the year, and went on a late-season run to qualify for the playoffs.
Jim Montgomery’s club is the hottest in the league since the 4 Nations Face-Off break. But they’ll have to face the Avs without Dylan Holloway. It was announced on Friday that he’s out week-to-week after suffering a lower-body injury against Pittsburgh.
Jordan Binnington likely gets the nod in goal for the Blues, albeit that is not yet confirmed. He was also the starter for both Blues wins against the Avalanche over the past six weeks.
