Best April Fools pranks of 2025: Weird B&B in Upstate NY, Jim Morrison concert, more

Happy April Fools Day!

It’s April 1, so take everything you see and hear (and touch) with a grain of salt on this nebulous holiday. But have fun with it, too — in fact, some of this year’s best pranks are from Upstate New York.

For example, the Manlius Police Department is offering a special “Get Out Of Jail Free” card (like from the Monopoly board game). The gag even include a bogus claim of an “EMV chip to prevent fellow criminals from trying to steal your one-time-use card.”

The Homer Center for the Arts announced a special concert by “Frank X,” 54 years after the supposed death of The Doors frontman Jim Morrison. A new documentary claims the rock singer faked his death and adopted the identity of Frank to live a secret life in Syracuse, so let’s see if he can still jam out to “Riders on the Storm” and “Peace Frog.”

Nutella claims it’s created a bed-and-breakfast dubbed the “Nutella BnB.” The weird “hazelnut heaven” is a B&B home rental in Lake Placid, N.Y., featuring hazelnut and cocoa-scented sheets, croissant pillows, a Nutella dispenser, and a pool with Nutella floaties.

If you’re hungry, you can also check out the quieter Crunch candy bar (“made with boiled white rice for 75% less noise”), Tim Hortons’ lobster eclair, or the limited edition Popeyes Pickle Menu with Pickle Glaze Bone-In & Boneless Wings, the Pickle Glaze Sandwich, Fried Pickles and Pickle Lemonade.

Some hoaxes actually sound like a good idea, like the new Dr. Pepper-flavored Tic Tacs or Reese’s Chocolatey Bread for a sweet twist on the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. (By the way, you can get Reese’s PB&J peanut butter cups.)

Dunkin’, meanwhile, is offering 1 million hot or iced coffees or cold brew drinks to Dunkin’ Rewards members for April 1. It’s not a joke — customers even have to use the promo code ThisIsNotAJoke to collect their freebies — but the restaurant chain did warn people to “stay strong out there, because April 2 is coming…”
