Bills miss out on DK Metcalf as Seahawks trade him to Steelers

BILLS

Those hopeful for a blockbuster in Buffalo lost out to another “Rust Belt” NFL team in the end.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have acquired Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks.

Metcalf, 27, cost Pittsburgh a second-round selection at the upcoming 2025 NFL draft. In addition, he’s getting a massive new contract from the Steelers, a five-year, $150 million deal according to various reports including NFL Network:

Metcalf’s numbers have slightly dipped over the past few seasons, but he still remains a deep threat for any offense in the NFL. The wideout has been named to two Pro Bowls in his career.

In 2024, Metcalf had 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns.

Prior to being moved, reports surfaced that Metcalf wanted to be traded to a team with a “warm-weather climate.” That seemed to put the Bills out of the equation, but evidently that was not the case since the Steelers are the team geographically closest to Buffalo.

As the NFL pushes toward the start of the league’s free agency period this week, the Bills will continue to have a need at wide receiver after not landing Metcalf. The team’s list of pending free agents including both Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins.
