The Celtics continue to rack up victories as they’ve done a lot of their damage away from home. After their Spurs win Saturday, the C’s improved to 31-7 on the road this season.
That puts the Celtics in a potentially historic situation. With three more road victories, they would match the 2015-16 Warriors for best road record in NBA history. Those Warriors, who sent an NBA record with a 73-9 record, went 34-7 away from home. So the C’s are three wins away from matching that mark, though they’d need to win all three of those games.
The Celtics face the Grizzlies on Monday to wrap up their six-game road trip. They’re currently 5-0 on this season-long road trip, winning each game by at least double-digits. The Spurs put up some resistance, but the C’s executed their way to the win Saturday to preserve their chance at history.
Then, afterwards, the C’s have two more road games for the rest of the season. They face the Knicks in New York on April 8, then they take on the Magic in Orlando on April 9 to close out the road back-to-back. So those aren’t easy games as all three teams are in at least play-in positioning, meaning they could be playing for something at that point in the year.
The Celtics are in an interesting position when it comes to the East standings. They’re now 55-19 on the season, which is four games behind the first-place Cavaliers, who are 59-15. Now, considering each team only has eight games left on the schedule, catching the Cavs is still improbable at this point.
However, the Cavs have lost five of their last eight games, cracking the door open for the Celtics in the standings. The C’s, to their credit, have taken care of business even with varying levels of availability recently. They’ve won 13 of their last 14 games as Boston is trending toward another 60-win campaign.
On the flip side of the Celtics’ road dominance, they have stumbled at TD Garden this season. They’re 24-12 at home, which is a step down considering they went 37-4 at the Garden last year. But, regardless, the Celtics have shaken off their struggles from a few months ago. Considering the playoffs are close, that’s all C’s fans can hope for as they eye back-to-back titles.
