Jayson Tatum was injured after making a contested three-pointer in the third quarter against the Sacramento Kings. He left the game as it appeared that he had hurt his left ankle.
Tatum’s foot appeared to land on Domantas Sabonis’ foot and the Boston Celtics standout immediately went down clutching his left ankle, as he was in visible pain.
Tatum remained down for a while before being helped to the bench. He would then return to make a free throw and left the game.
We are already in late March and the Celtics won’t want to see Tatum pick up any significant injury so close to the playoffs.
There seems to be a positive update on the situation of Tatum though, as it looks like he is doing OK.
“He seems to be doing OK,” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said. “I didn’t see the play but they made the right call. Fortunate that he was able to shoot the free throws. (He’s) taking care of it right now.”
Of course, the Celtics had enough in the tank to win the game even without Tatum. They defeated the Kings 113-95.
Despite leaving the game early due to his injury and playing just 26 minutes, Tatum finished with the most points on the night. He had 25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds to his name. That just goes on to show his importance to this Celtics team.
“I literally just asked him how he was doing and he said, ‘OK,’” Mazzulla said. “He’ll do anything and everything to make sure he gets better.”
The Celtics’ next game is against the Pheonix Suns, who have picked up some late-season form and are making a run for a play-in spot. They are on a four-game win streak and will fancy their chances against Boston on their home floor, especially if Tatum is not available.
