The Boston Bruins on Friday traded captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers in a shocking deal that marks the end of an era.
So, what exactly did the Bruins receive in return for their captain?
The Bruins acquired a 2027 conditional second-round draft pick, the team announced.
The conditional second-rounder will become a 2027 or 2028 first-round pick if the Panthers win two rounds of the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs and Marchand appears in at least 50% of Florida’s playoff games.
Boston will retain 50% of Marchand’s salary.

Marchand currently is sidelined with an upper body injury he suffered March 2 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 36-year-old forward is considered week to week.
Marchand’s injury, impending free agency and status as a franchise icon all made for a complicated situation prior to Friday’s NHL trade deadline. But the Bruins ultimately decided to trade the 16-year veteran as part of a massive roster reconfiguration that also saw Charlie Coyle and Brandon Carlo, among others, shipped to new homes.

Marchand obviously is a huge pickup for Florida, provided he returns to full health as the Panthers look to repeat as Stanley Cup champions. The Bruins, meanwhile, acquired valuable draft capital that could prove helpful in shaping their long-term future.
