Long Island emo heroes Brand New will play Elmont’s UBS Arena on July 2, the band announced Monday. The show will be the last of a 24-date tour that begins May 30 in Seattle.
Formed in Levittown in 2000, Brand New helped turn Long Island into ground zero for the emo-rock explosion of the era. Known for their intense live shows and ambitious songwriting, the band released a series of acclaimed albums, including 2006’s “The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me,” before accusations of past sexual misconduct surfaced against singer Jesse Lacey in 2017. Lacey issued a public apology, but the band canceled its upcoming tour dates and essentially disappeared from public view.
Recently, however, Brand New has been playing shows outside the New York market, according to reports and social media posts. A March 26 show at The Bomb Factory in Dallas appears to have marked the band’s first reunion concert since 2017. “What a special band that means so much to so many people,” gushed one user on Brand New’s Reddit group after the show. “Return to form in the best way — they sounded incredible.”
Brand New’s tour will stop at both concert halls and arenas. In the tri-state area, the band will also play at the roughly 16,000-seat Prudential Center in Newark on June 29. The UBS Arena can seat up to 19,000 for concerts.
Presales begin Wednesday at noon. General-public tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. For more information, go to brandnew-live.com.
