Brian Harman battled through windy conditions to win the Texas Open by three strokes Sunday, capturing his first victory since the 2023 Open Championship and ending a slow start to 2025.
Harman, who hadn’t finished better than tied for 17th in his first nine events of the year, entered Sunday with a three-stroke lead and held on with a 3-over 75 to finish 9 under for the tournament. Ryan Gerard finished second at 6 under after shooting a 3-under 69 on Sunday, one of only three scores in the 60s on the day.
Harman raced out to a lead in the tournament Friday after back-to-back 6-under 66s in the first two rounds. Sunday, he navigated winds that gusted up to 30 mph at TPC San Antonio. After a double bogey on the par-4 ninth hole dropped him to 3 over for the round, he found stability, with three pars and a birdie on holes 10-13.
Novak, who was seeking his first PGA Tour win, was within one stroke of Harman after the front nine but bogeyed four of his final six holes to fall into a tie for third with Maverick McNealy at 5 under. Tom Hoge, who was part of the final grouping with Harman and Novak, shot a 4-over 76 on Sunday to fall into a seven-way tie for fifth at 4 under.
Harman, who earned his fourth career PGA Tour victory, hadn’t had a top-10 finish in nearly 10 months, since the 2024 Travelers Championship last June. When he finished ninth in that event, he was No. 11 in the world. He had slid to 49th before Sunday’s win.
The tour now turns to Augusta National and the Masters. Harman will hope for an improved performance there, too; he has missed the cut in each of the last three Masters tournaments.
