Two of the hottest teams in the NBA clash on Monday night when the Chicago Bulls visit the Oklahoma City Thunder. OKC has won nine in a row, and Chicago has won seven of 10. Josh Giddey will make his return to Oklahoma City for the first time since being traded last summer, but can he and his team stay competitive on the road against a heavy favorite?
My Bulls vs Thunder predictions and NBA picks expect Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to deliver a strong scoring performance at home on Monday, March 31.
Bulls vs Thunder prediction
My best bet: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Over 34.5 points (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads the NBA in scoring at 32.9 points per game, and he’s become such a prolific scorer that his points line has risen all the way to 34.5. He’s more than capable of hitting the Over, and that’s what I expect him to do tonight.
The Chicago Bulls lead the NBA in scoring over the last five games, and the Oklahoma City Thunder aren’t far behind in that span. The point total is set at 238.5, and an Over prediction means plenty of scoring opportunities for Gilgeous-Alexander.
The Bulls have covered in eight of their last 10, and they should be able to keep things close with the Thunder for most of the game. This could turn into a shootout, and Gilgeous-Alexander will need to be at his best on offense to help OKC keep pace with a potent Bulls scoring attack.
Pre All-Star break, SGA averaged 32.1 points, but he’s averaging 34.1 points across 18 games post-break. He’s scored at least 35 points in seven of those, with a 34-point game mixed in. Gilgeous-Alexander leads the NBA in 30-point games at 47, and he’s scored 35 or more 25 times including 14 at home.
He’s averaged a whopping 36.4 points across his last seven at home, going for 35 or more four times, including a 40-point performance and a 51-point eruption.
The Bulls have allowed the seventh-most points to PGs this season at 25 per game, but they’ve been even more generous across the last seven, surrendering 26.9 in that span.
I’ll take the Over for the NBA’s most effective scorer as he leads his team past one of the best offensive units in the Association.
Bulls vs Thunder same-game parlay
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Over 34.5 pointsOver 238.5
Coby White 20+ points
On the season, the Bulls rank sixth in points per game at 1174, and the Thunder rank fourth at 120.1. Over the last five, OKC has scored 124.4 (third-most), and Chicago has scored 128.2 (most). Both defenses have played well in that span, but slowing down either unit will be a problem. I expect both teams to score effectively, getting this one to the Over, even with a relatively high expected total.
Coby White has been on fire over the last month, and there’s no reason to bet against him tonight. He’s scored at least 20 points in 15 straight and averaged 28.8 in that span. White has scored at least 20 in 39 of 67 games overall this season, including 21 on the road. I expect this to be a high-scoring affair, which means White will need to get buckets.
