Carolina beaches see windy conditions ahead of Tropical Storm Chantal
LOCALLY. IT’S ALL COMING UP. THANK YOU. MICHELLE. OUR OUR COVERAGE OF TROPICAL STORM CHANTAL CONTINUES IN SOUTH CAROLINA. THAT’S WHERE WE FIND OUR CHRIS PETERSON WITH AN UPDATE ON CONDITIONS AHEAD OF THE STORM’S LANDFALL. WE’VE EXPERIENCED PERIODS OF RAIN AND HIGH WINDS THROUGHOUT THE DAY HERE AT SURFSIDE BEACH,- BUT AS THE STORM MOVED CLOSER,,- FOLKS CAME OUT TO THE SURFSIDE BEACH PIER TO CHECK OUT THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF MOTHER NATURE. I COULDN’T HELP BUT NOTICE HOW THE WIND WAS TERRORIZING WILLY LEONARD’S BEARD, AND MADE WALKING ALONG THE PIER CHALLENGING. A LITTLE WINDY, BUT YOU KNOW, IT COMES IN. IT COMES TOGETHER, BACK TOGETHER. NICE. LEONARD AND HIS FAMILY MADE THE TREK DOWN FROM MARYLAND TO STAY AT OCEAN LAKES CAMPGROUND FOR THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND, JUST AS THE RAIN WAS STARTING TO FALL. WE GOT HERE RIGHT WHEN IT STARTED, SO RIGHT WHEN IT HIT, I WAS TRYING TO PARK THE CAMPER SO THIS STORM COULDN’T HAVE COME AT A WORSE TIME.ULDN’T HAVE COME AT PLENTY OF TRAVELERS WERE IN TOWN FOR THE 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND. WE WENT INTO THE OCEAN. IT WAS A LOT OF FUN. YOU COULD FEEL THE TIDES KIND OF PULLING YOU. BUT THEN WE WENT BACK TO OUR RESORT AND WENT IN THE LAZY RIVER. NO RED FLAG WARNINGS ON THE BEACHES HERE, BUT LIFEGUARDS ARE WARNING FOLKS TO USE CAUTION IF YOU GO INTO THE OCEAN. THEY SPENT THE AFTERNOON PICKING UP BEACH CHAIRS AND UMBRELLAS IN ANTICIPATION OF WHAT’S TO COME. LOCAL OFFICIALS DON’T SEEM TOO CONCERNED ABOUT TROPICAL STORM CHANTAL, BUT FOLKS WHO HAVE NEVER BEEN THROUGH A STORM LIKE THIS ARE BEING CAUTIOUS. I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD RESPECT MOTHER NATURE. I MEAN, WE ARE OUT. IT DOESN’T SEEM TO COLOSSAL AT THIS TIME, BUT WE ARE PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT’S AROUND US. HORRY COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS ARE SHARING THAT SAME MESSAGE. PAY ATTENTION AND BE CAREFUL AT SURFSIDE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA, I’M CHR
