Chance McMillian injury update: Texas Tech basketball star ruled out for March Madness game vs. Drake

WICHITA, Kan. — Chance McMillian will miss the Texas Tech basketball team’s second-round March Madness game against Drake.

Tech officially ruled out McMillian (upper body) just before tip-off in INTRUST Bank Arena. McMillian has missed both of Texas Tech’s games in the 2025 NCAA Tournament games and sat out the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament last week in Kansas City.

Head coach Grant McCasland said Friday that McMillian’s injury “is significant in regards to impacting his ability to play the game and play it with a lot of confidence is one thing, but just to even get out there.”

“We’re still trying every day to put him in the best position,” McCasland continued, “and we’re hopeful that we can get him on the court, but it’s honestly so hard to say until we get out there and get him out there and see if he can go.”

Texas Tech is 2-2 this season in games without McMillian, who missed wins over West Virginia and UNC Wilmington and losses to Arizona and Houston. McMillian is averaging 14.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season while shooting 43.4% from 3-point range.
